These are brilliant! Thank you for sharing. Lately I have been addin texture to my pastels with alcohol brushing on top of first dark layer and then gesso under top layers...very exciting. I also like your use of colors, very original.

Thanks Patricia. Are you using clear gesso over your initial pastel layers?

Yes I do an initial blocking in of black or dark pastel colors of shapes, then paint with a stiff brush and rubbing alcohol over it to refine it. Let dry or use dryer. Then skim clear gesso over areas to be highlighted or where I want texture. Dry. Then reinforce dark areas with dark colored pastels. Then spray with rubbing alcohol to fix it in place before starting light layers. This last step can be skipped as it does darken...use in areas you want to darken.

Love this painting. I’m assuming the gesso is on the blue/green areas where I can see lots of exciting texture. My eye seems to travel deeper into the painting to view the sky. Very cool!
